I am so excited to share this one with y'all! This is one of my student’s favorite activities that we do every Friday during our morning meeting. One of the amazing veteran teachers at my school shared this idea with me and now I'm passing it on to you :) Get this resources for FREE on my Teachers Pay Teachers Store!
Before the activity:
Before we ever actually do this activity we ALWAYS discuss as a class how to give an appropriate and thoughtful compliment. This step is crucial to the success of the activity. We also discuss why we give people compliments. Model a few examples on your own and with students to ensure that they understand what it should and shouldn’t look like.
How it works:
1. The person to my right starts us off (Usually we are in a circle but you do not have to be)
2. The student can choose to: -give a compliment to another student (show the give side of the sign) -get a compliment from a classmate (show the get side of the sign) - pass to the next student
3. If the student chooses to get a compliment from another classmate, I simply choose someone who raises their hand or I ask that student if I can give them one.
4. They then pass the sign to the next student. The process repeats until we have gotten to everyone in the class.
